# Glenn McClure receives National Science Foundation Artist & Writers Fellowship

Glenn will travel to Antarctica in October/November 2016 to work with scientists in the field, creating music that dramatizes their important work in Climate Studies. This team uses subsonic sound waves to measure the viability of the ice shelf. Glenn will use a mathematical conversion process to bring subsonic sound waves into the hearing range, therefore generating material for music that embodies the messages within the ice. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y86BiZ5Kqro This talk explores the connection between Music, Mathematics and Science from its origins in Ancient Greece to composer Glenn McClure's recent work with the European Space Agency Operations Center Choir. He demonstrates how numerical data sets can be translated into melodies and harmonies, thereby rediscovering the dynamic relationship between Science and the Arts.
