Missa Kreyol

The Choeur classique de l’Outaouias under the direction of Tiphaine Legrand has commissioned composer Glenn McClure to write The Missa Kreyol/Messe créole. This commission is made possible by the New York State – Quebec Artist in Residence Program that is co-sponsored by the New York State Council on the Arts and the Conseil des Arts et des Lettres du Québec. This innovative program supports artistic collaborations between artists in New York State and Quebec through residencies on both sides of the border.
Mr. McClure will work closely with a wide variety of Haitian artists, researchers and educational leaders in Gatineau and Montreal during multiple visits in 2014 to develop the text and musical content of the Missa Kreyol/Messe créole. The creative exchange among project partners will continue online throughout the residency period. See the url’s below for links to the ongoing onsite and online activities of the residency. This commission is the next chapter in a long collaboration between the Choeur classiquede l’Outaouias and Mr. McClure. His works “St. Francis in the Americas,” and the “Caribbean Christmas Mass” have been favorites of Gatineau audiences over the last ten years.
The new work will premier in late 2014 in Gatineau. We look forward to the work’s American premier in early 2015. Specific dates and locations TBA.
