Wine and War – a new Folk Opera by Glenn McClure

Wine and War Poster

Please join us for one or more of these upcoming events to explore this dramatic story of wine, war, and music.

As it turns out, Glenn’s hometown of York, NY is not only the birthplace of New York State’s wine industry—it’s also the setting of a powerful, often heartbreaking story about a soldier returning home from the Civil War. Composer Glenn McClure has taken this rich local history and woven it into a brand-new folk opera, exploring themes of resilience, memory, and the enduring human spirit through music.

Each event features a unique blend of lecture and concert, bringing together historians, veterans, and wine experts to guide us through the making of this opera. There’s even a wine tasting and a workshop performance with some incredible musicians later in the series.

Here’s where you can catch it:

  • August 25, 7–8PM – York Common Grounds
  • August 30 – Genesee Country Village Hops & Wine Event, Mumford
  • August 31, 1:30–3PM – Livingston County Museum, Geneseo (with wine tasting)
  • September 4, 7–8PM – York Town Hall
  • September 23, 6–7PM – Wadsworth Library, Geneseo
  • October 3, 7–8:30PM – Riviera Theater, Geneseo (Workshop Concert featuring Jim Kimball, Amy Cochrane, and Lee Wright)

Let’s come together to celebrate this story and this music—rooted in our land, our people, and our shared history.
